Have you ever wondered who makes your cleaning and hygiene products? Products such as Luvs, Pampers, Tide, Gain, Tampax, Old Spice, ZzzQuil and many other brands are owned by Procter & Gamble. I chose this company for my final project because I applaud their values. The company’s philosophy is to remain transparent with their customers, build relationships, respect our rights as humans, and source responsibly (P&G, 2018). The company operates out of seventy countries across the globe and gives back to those communities and the planet. One example of how they give back is their partnership with nurses developing comfortable diapers for newborns and premature babies. They also give products and clean drinking water to the less fortunate such as the Syrian refugees. P&G even stands up for gender equality and diversity. The part I personally love is that P&G doesn’t test their products on animals.
For the final project, I want to explore a potential product that could help those with anxiety and depression. The product would basically be a natural remedy to soothe anxiety and boost spirits when depressed. I’m thinking the product would work best as a lotion. The consumer would rub the lotion on the neck or hands so that the essential oils and fragrances can spread to the nose. There would most likely be two lotion fragrances: one to calm anxiety and one to soothe depression. To research the potential for this lotion, I would have to learn about fragrances work with mood disorders through scientific discovery. I would have to research the sales and reviews on similar products such as the MONQ pen and other lotions. The lotion would align with MONQ because they are based on specific essential oils and natural remedies. For example, a scent to calm anxiety would be lavender. To reduce ridicule of how a fragrance can possibly help a disorder, I would have to research how these disorders work and how simply thinking a product works makes it work. To find my target audience, I’ll have to research which age groups are most affected by mood disorders and what can this age group afford. I believe it would work best for a company such as Olay to pick up this product because they already sell lotion and have an established audience and reputation. Launching a lotion that helps people calm down or boost their spirits will help the company touch a new audience– those with anxiety and depression.
